Charity To Support Matthew Porter on September 18th
The Olympics are in full swing, and the US is doing very well. The US Olympic Fencing Team did VERY well this year. They showed well and brought home medals. We can't forget that there is a whole support team that goes with them to the Olympics.
While they were overseas, there have been large fires in California. The armorer of the US Fencing Team, Matthew Porter, had a house that was in the way of one of those fires; the one in Lower Lake. While he was in Rio with our team, he lost his house and everything in it. Luckily, his wife and animals were able to get out. Click here to read the full story on ABC 7 News.
Matthew Porter used to work at American Fencers Supply in San Francisco, and I met him there a few times when I would go in. I would like to hold a tournament to help him and his family rebuild. On Sunday, September 18 I am hosting a charity fencing event to help Matthew. I would like all my friends that do HEMA to join me and help support one of the members of our Olympic team. Please tell everyone you know about this and let's let our passion help someone in need. Participation in the tournament will be $15 and watching the tournament will be $5.
